The Human Services Council is a professional association of agencies and individuals who foster networking and partnerships in Snohomish County.
Vision
HSC is dedicated to providing opportunities to share information and learn from the experiences of others. Through networking and educational activities, the organization creates a support network that fosters partnerships and brings together public sector agencies, nonprofit organizations and the business community.
History and Structure
Incorporated in 1982, The Human Services Council is a nonprofit organization. In addition to a governing Board of Directors, the council maintains standing committees for Scholarships, Education, Membership and Marketing. With the assistance of a paid staff member, board members and community volunteers oversee all organizational activities. The organization’s budget is sustained by annual memberships and event sponsorships. Memberships are available for the public sector, human service organizations, businesses and individuals.
Activities
Approximately 50 member organizations and 20 community sponsors participate in HSC activities. Activities and events are selected by the Board of Directors based on member surveys and community interests.
§ Networking Luncheons
HSC offers bimonthly networking luncheons to share information and encourage collaborative partnerships between human service agencies, public sector agencies and the business community.
§ Partnerships Forum
HSC sponsors this annual event, to recognize and celebrate public—private collaborations that benefit youth, families, the disadvantaged, and our communities at large.
§ Community Education Sessions
HSC offers trainings based on community interest, past trainings include panel discussions on youth and elder services, grant and foundation funding, legislative advocacy training and family support programs.
§ Scholarship Program
HSC sponsors The Bob Drewel Human Services Scholarship, which provides educational advancement opportunity for individuals working or volunteering in the human services field.
§ Community Support
HSC gives to grass root organizations in support of community development. Past sponsorships have included the Challenge Day Program, Children’s Campaign Fund — The Best of Washington, Links & Alliances — Annual Conference, Snohomish County Counts — Community Assessment, Candidate Forums, Healthcare Reform Forums, and Fund Development Workshops.
§ Communication and Outreach
HSC distributes a monthly E-mail newsletter with announcements and job postings sent to 500 community members, including health and human service agencies and professionals.
